aboriginal dots

An amazing aspect of teaching the same subject as the previous school year, a first in my teaching career, is being able to see where students lacked and how important self reflection brings into instruction. In my first year of teaching painting one, I witnessed many students not grasping painting with layers and the importance of value and paint mixing. After some dissecting of my projects, I decided this year to wipe out most of my starter projects and begin the first quarter with some exciting abstract works that challenge and force my students to build their paintings through multiple layerings and explosions of color.

This is where the idea sparked in my brain to incorporate Aboriginal Dot painting into this fun lesson.
